19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his initial championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging season, winning just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-time mentor Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface since spring of the previous year.

Victory also indicates Medvedev has won 21 victories at 21 different competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is really nice," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I won when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his previous six title deciders, comprising in that event earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching strategy and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to wonder if his capacity to play at the top level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and compete positively, supported by an improved serve.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped break points in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to force a third set.

He saved four early-game chances in a tight final set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, he earned the title with a shot at the net, with Moutet unable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
