Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Police say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then found numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state early analysis suggest the substance was most likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the event," they added.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the community for details.
An important political figure stated the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
